cotton candy pop

its been awhile since ive did a review on my
favourite beats and sounds at the moment.
so thats what im want to do today..
so first up is the song

"Pink Rocket"
from the group
Dal Shabet

this is relatively a new group in the kpop
scene as they kinda debuted earlier this
year and this song being their second title single.
what makes me actually hating myself for loving this song is
due to the simplistic nature of the song.
if u actually listen to the instrumental
version of the song which i downloaded,
the song has really simple beats
*except for the raping part.*
but i guess thats the reason why this song is in the
top 7 song of the Inkigayo song chart..
even being such a young group.

another song that i really enjoy at the moment is a song by my favourite
kpop group. this song is a very recent song and has only been realised last weekend.

"Shampoo"
by
After School

this song has resulted in the group for the first time since a year
ago to be able to perform together.
throughout the whole year this group has been doing solo and
individual promotions and in their official twitter account has mentioned that
that they have really missed performing together and have been working hard
for thier comeback performances.
this song is penned by Danshi Dance who also wrote the
song "Haru Haru" by Big Bang.
and comprises of a subtle piano melody.
simply put, i love this big group of hot ladies and watever they
come out with, I WILL LOVE!

the next song that im totally in love is a song that
i actually gave little attention to before but fell head over heels when
Hailey Reinhart sang it during last weeks American Idol

"Rolling In the Deep"
by
Adele

im totally loving her voice
*ive been in love with her voice even before this song, dont get me wrong*
i can totally understand where this song come from...
it makes me feel angry and hurt..
and gives me this sensation of reminiscing old memories,
its like so weird. XD

but yeah,
this song its not as complex as many
of the electronic sounds out there...
*sorry J.Lo, im pointing to you*
but i guess its nice to give your head a rest from all that
music that revolves around it being visual.
this song as Adele has put
to be music for the ears not for the eyes..

so yeah.
thats it for my top songs at the moment.
what song makes u feel good these days?
let me know in the comments below.

toodles.

ps. changed the layout of my blog
got tired of the layout that has remained unchanged for 2 years.
*plus my friend told me to change it.
ive gone with a minimalistic approach to my blog, u dig?

sunflowers

to those who didnt noe,
i started playing gamelan for an up and coming
Malaysian artist Amirah Ali for a few months now.
it was a long process before i finally did join and performed
together as during the end of last year, i was kinda busy with
other stuff.

so eventually at the start of the new year, when i decided to
stop dancing for awhile to make way for other stuff that
i had the opportunity to do this.
and its such a great decision.

Amirah Ali is an Internationally recognized singer/songwriter
if u havent heard any of her songs,
ill post a link later down below.

so,
its her vision to have pop music be incorporated with
world & traditional music elements.
so thats where we came in.

in the band, apart from the normal guitar, drums, and keyboards,
we have the bansuri (bamboo flute) and also the gamelan.
i also heard that Amirah is looking to introduce the Sape
into the mix. so keep an eye for that..

ive always enjoyed playing music.
(ive been playing music for 15 years.)
i also enjoy the roots and tradition of cultural music,
so this was very awesome for me to be able to be part of.
the band consist of such fun and awesome characters.
every single person is friendly and the first
day of rehearsal didnt feel awkward at all!

thanks kak Amirah for the inviting me as apart of
Asuhan Seni Gamelan Group to perform with the band.
:D

this is Amirah Ali's fb Page.
check out the song Katakanlah and Alone Again.
my fave 2 songs of hers.

toodles.

ps.
we have a Korean noona in the band! :)

Korean Pop Diva

its been awhile since i last post somtin on K-Pop.
ok, heres the thing with k-pop these days..
a few weeks ago, the k-pop scene had a rough patch due
to the bombing of the 2 naval ships in the Korean waters.
most of the music shows had to cancel their broadcasts up to like 4 weeks.

but in the past few weeks,
the k-pop scene have been graced with so many great acts
by among of the best they have to offer like

Lee Hyori (my fav),
Super Junior,
2PM,
f(x),
Davichi and
many more.

so,
a brief intro about lee hyori,
she's like one of the most loved celebrity in Korea.
she first debuted as a singer as apart of the girl group fin.kl in the late 90's
but later moved on as a solo artist when the group disbanded.

H-Logic is her 4th solo album and
she has written the title song album herself.

she may seem as a diva on stage but she has proven
herself as a funny women as permanent member of the famous
tv show "family outing".

here's a vid of her latest song
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Asuhan Seni

as some of u guys noe,
im a member of the Gamelan group
"Asuhan Seni"

its not actually a group in essence,
more like a musical class.
why do i say that?
coz we learn not just how to play the instrument in this
group but also we learn the theories and foundations of
traditional music.

taken from the groups facebook account, it says

and basically we are trying now to promote our group
not only in sense of for shows
(we would love if u guys book us for show)
but also for people who are interested to learn traditional music.
our class, which are held in
Istana Budaya
every Sunday
at 10 am - 12 pm
are always open for new faces.

so, i would love ur help in spreading our name around
the town as we really need ur help.
heee~
heck, who noes, u could get somtin out of it.

toodles~

Wonder Women

Its been awhile since i last post somtin
about Kpop.
this is somtin i was anticipating for quite awhile.
ok.
the picture above is not of a group.
those 7 girls belongs to 3 different vocal groups
(SeeYa, Davichi and T-ara)
coming from the same record company "Mnet"
these 7 girls
(i wont even bother writing down their names,
coz u guys wont even care anyways)
are known for their strong vocals.
also recognized to be among the best in Kpop.

this is the second time these girls have gathered together
to sing a song. and last tyme the song
"Woman's Generation"
did quite well in the chart
n Mnet is hoping that they could repeat the feat.

the song has a trot (korean folk music) feel to it.
which for me is very refreshing coz, most Kpop songs these days
contains to much electronic sounds.
the song also highlights the girls vocals
n Hyomin's and EunJung's rapping abilities.
(the two on the far right of the pic)

ill include the first performance of the song
at Music Bank so that u guys can see..
i would agree that this song would not be up to the taste
of certain people, but
Go ahead! Give it a try!

Defying Gravity

theres this one little song called
'Defying Gravity'
which have caught my attention
on the latest episode of Glee...

this song is one of the best songs
ive heard in a while...
the lyrics,
the melody,
the composition....
it all blends sooo nicely together
thus making it a great song.

this song is actually a original song created for
the theater musical
'Wicked'

this musical is basically about
the Wicked Witch of the South
before Dorothy came to the
Wonderful World Of Oz,
where she met with
the Tin Man without a heart,
the Scarecrow without a brain,
and the Lion without courage,
blah, blah, blah...

yeah..
its b4 any of them met.
the musical is also a multiple
Tony award winner
with many other awards as well...

i assure u,
u should check out this song,
or even better try and look
around for a recording of this musical...

ive included a link for those
who would like to download
the original version of the song
by Idina Menzel.

toodles!

PS. if u manage to stumble across the recording of 'Wicked',
plz let me know ya?!

S.I.G.N.

for those who are new to Kpop,
Brown Eyed Girls is one of the best female groups
currently still active in Korea.
being one of the senior groups with most of the
group members already at their late 20's,
the group is still able to come put with hit after hit
since their second album last year.

after the very much success of
'Abracadabra'
the Brown Eyed Girls (BEG)
are back with a repackaged
Version of their album Sound-G

this repackaged album also come with
a new single which they have started
promoting yesterday on Mnet MCountdown.

all i can say is that ive fallen in love
with the BEG's once again with this new single.
yet again they've come out with another
catchy song with a catchy dance.

but i cant but feel like the beat of
this song is kinda similar to of which
from their song L.O.V.E,
but who cares, this song is still the bomb.
Ive included a vid of their performance
last night on Mnet Mcountdown.

i apologize coz this vid is not the best vid i could provide,
but it is the smallest i have,
(my Internet is really slow)

i hope u enjoy it as much as i did.
Toodles!

I like the muzik

this is the group 4Minute's latest song
which is entitled
'Muzik'
(yes, it is spelled like that)

i believe this song is really catchy and it has
a nice hook to it...
i would recommend evryone to give it a try...

this song is a mixture pop dance, electronica and the
signature kpop style of music that is so unique and distinct to the
Korean people...
this song also have more vocal parts for the members to sing...

personally i would say this song is
a major improvement from their
last single "Hot Issue"
which i taught was silly..
hahaha...

owh btw i think Jiyoon looks
SSupper Smexy in this song...
(Jiyoon is the girl with short hair and wearing sunglasses...)
hahahaa

so,
ive included a performance video they did
last week on their comeback stage...
i hope u enjoy it...

angklung?

haha..
last weekend was very interesting...
most of u would have already known
that i dance zapin for my uni,
and i also played music all my life,

so,
last weekend i was asked to join in a performance
by my uni's angklung club..
it was really interesting...
i had fun playing music in a group like i used to do..
much fun indeed...

but at first i felt really against doin the performance
as i was not a part of the group...
but after much persuasion
i went for it....

i played four angklungsss...
and we played 5 songs...
imagine how messed up i was...
it was my first show, ok!
usually for first timers,
they would only be given a single angklung to play...
i had 4 for my first...

HEBAT TAK?

this is us....
tired after the performance...
hehehe....

tanx kak lin for the opportunity..
i had a great time...

Abracadabra

as most of u who personally noe me know..
i love korean music...
especially this one girls group named
'Brown Eyed Girls'...

their latest album
'Sound-G'
is really good and i recommend people go downld it...

their first single from this album
'Abracadabra'
has already top most of the charts in korea
and is still goin strong after more than a month
released.

here is wat the Soompi.com wrote when the group got
no 1 on their charts...

Brown Eyed Girls scored third No. 1 song on our chart with "Abracadabra",
firmly enchanted themselves as one of the premier girl groups in Korea despite many strong competitions.
The quartet has been very successful since switching to up-tempo dance songs.
"Abracadabra" was co-composed by Rollercoaster’s Jinu (Hitch Hiker) and Lee Min Soo.
It is a fresh electronic pop dance number with BEG members' electrifying
performance and dance moves already is the talk of the town.

the girls also manage to keep their title on Soompi this week...
woohooo!!!

here ive posted a vid so
u guys could see...
its not the best one ive got
but i think its good enough...

congrats to them and hopefully more great songs are comin.

toodles!

ps. post nie tok hilman... pasal dia kata nk dgr lagu nie...

Im Home!!

im finally at home after nearly a month of none stop work,
shows and meetings...

wow!

i sound like some random celebrity whos
too bz for anythin that actually matters.
hehe...

so 2morrow ive got this audition at
Istana Budaya of which im like totally nervous about.
i must do well 2morrow!

Wish me luck again u guys..

and
yesterday was the IIUM cultural unit Promo show.
firstly i just have to say that it was raining!

the carpet we were to be dancing on was entirely wet and slippery
and i had to be extra careful not to have fallen down
as a lot of my close frens were up there watching me.

luckily nothin bad happened except for some minor misshaps.
hehe!

i went on to be a really cool night.
my frens were there watching
and i had a great time hanging out
with the members of the cultural unit.

the lighting is certainly not making me any favours...
i look like i have begok...

tanx everyone for a wonderful night!

Ramadhan is comin.
hopefully my aim of losing a few kg's this year
is succesfull.

ps. al-fatihah
to a dear friend of mine Tuminah bt Paiman
as her dad past away last thursday...

dont touch my mallet!

gamelan class was wonderful...
there were a lot of familiar faces,
both from kaed and from the cultural groups.

and the good part was that i manage to play the
bonang (above pic)
its like the hardest gamelan instrument to play,
but im like totally ready for the challenge.

i think ive already memorized the first song that was thought that night.
'Perang' was the song called...
it was actually a song that was played everytim
a sultan or the agong came into a ceremony or some sort.

we are expected to perform in UPSI in october,
only
IF
we were to reach that certain standard,
that we wouldnt embarrassed cikgu Zahir,
so im hoping for that.

i want to be really good at playing the bonang,
so wish me luck, k?

hehe...

this is getting worrisome.

i honestly didnt think that it would be this hard to keep
a steady output of blog updates when im back in the uni,
but this is getting ridiculous.

i just dont have time..
hee...

owh btw the Brown Eyed girls did their
comeback performance at Inkigayo today,
it was soooooooooo awesome!!!

Abracadabra

i found the latest single from Brown Eyed Girls such a hit in the making.
it sounds fresh!
it sounds great!
it sounds new!
it sounds like Justin Timberlake?

the song is called...
'Abracadabra'
im not actually sure why its called that coz
i dont really understand much Korean.
but thankfully
they are still carrying on with their signiture electronica sounds
but it sound soooo much current and is such a
fresh breath of air from all the Kpop act now.

ill try and upload the track later in the week
as i dont have the time just yet.
but ill try my best.

toodles!

Pop Culture..

owh man...
ledoquyen just uploaded new vids and i cant even dwnld a single
one with the current condition of my internet connection.
its like so sucky today.
and i just cant wait to see the vids...
its just not the same as watching them on youtube...

most of my studio mates noe that im really into Korean Pop Music.
i literally noe almost every current Korean groups and their individual names...
its not like just one particular group, OK?
i literally noe the whole lot.

u see,
there was once an ad on popseoul (a korean gossip or such site)
looking for new people to write for them,
its like they email us the stories and we would like write witty stuff about it
and then they will post it on the site...

i honestly wanted to apply.
hahaha..
thinking that i would have a future in journalism.
haha...

but yeah,
i love korean music.
and i noe im not alone.

one thing is tho,
there's a lot of schoolgirls these days saying that they love korean pop music.
but in reality they just follow these few groups they find having cute guys.
i dont blame them tho,
koreans do look particularly perfect,
perfect teeth,
perfect skin,
perfect hair.

haiyoohh...

ok, back to the point.
its not like they like korean music,
they just like the that particular group.
i dont think its the same as liking their music...

most of the girls like popular bands like
DBSK,
Big Bang,
Wonder Girls,
Kara,
SS501,
Girls Generation
(SooYoung from this group is totally HAWT!!),
and FT Island.

but i like groups that seems to be not as popular..
funny coz they come up with very
good music if not better.
groups like
Brown Eyed Girls, Gavy NJ and V.O.S. are my fav.

the top one is Brown Eyed Girls.
my all time fav.
their music is influenced a lot by electronica sounds...
then its Gavy NJ and V.O.S.
both of these groups are slow ballad groups
they dont dance as much as the idol groups
but hey!
they sure do sound better.
and VOS just got their first Number 1 song
this week on Soompi.com (another korean music site)
congrats to them!!

wow!
this is getting into a really long post!
haha..
look at me talking about nonsense again.
but who noes??
i could be paid writing about
korean pop culture in the near future?
i can dream, rite?

toodles!!

centanial

it has been 5 years!
5 long years!
5 years of contemplation,
5 years of consideration,
5 years of pondering,
5 years of reflecting whether or not
i should step to the sacred grounds of Victoria Institution.

so, finally after the long awaited 5 years
i've finally went back to the much loved school of mine.
lots have changed but yet nothing has.

the tattoo actually started at 8,
but i actually went early with Hazman at around 5.30
just to look around and those long hollowed halls and corridors.

the night started off nicely with a short sketch
by the band members on how the band was actually established in 1909.
how it started with a drumline
and how a bagpipe section was introduced later,
making Victoria Institution Cadet Corps Band (VICCB)
the oldest Bagpipe group in Southeast Asia.

Then the show continued with the performance
of the drum and pipe section
showing of their classical oldschool way of marching and formations.
it was pretty much just basic show of drills and precision
these two section are famous for.

next is the performance from the invited
band from Indonesia
DC7 Drumline.
the band consist of primary school students who either play drums and march
or they play at the static percussions.
they were ok i guess.
nothing special.

next was a dance performance from a dance troupe from the YMCA.
they danced a traditional Scottish line dancing routine which was pretty
nice... i have no comment but to congratulate all the makciks
who can dance really well even with their age.

there were also minor performances from

1.two really beautiful NZ ladies who danced a really long Scottish dance

2. the royal navy who preformed a marching routine in the dark
with glow-in-the dark rifles.

3. the VI Cadet Corps Infantry who also marched in the dark but
no where near to the capability of the Royal Navy's team.

4. and there was also a drum battle between the VICCB and DC7,
it was cute, haha.. allaaa. it was the same like in the movie 'Drumline' tue.

so after all the minor performances,
its the time which everyone was waiting for...
the long awaited performance of
'Volcano'

this show is mostly done by a Thai instructor who made
the formation, music and other stuff apparently...

i actually recognised the first song which was
taken from the PGL the Musical Soundtrack.
Nice Song!
Nice rendition from the band,
with a trumpet and horn solo.

i actually enjoyed the show.
not blown away
lots of mistakes in the music..
but i give it a 7/10..

there were a lot of difficult moves in the show...
A LOT!
so i cant blame them...
but the colourguard was fantastic.

they sure can improve and im sure they will...
Good luck to the VICCB in Italy later in July!
May all your hardwork pay of and it reward you

Congrats to the band for reaching to a 100 years.
and i actually cant believe that i was actually a part of this band for more that 3 years.
proud to be one of them..

toodles.

You wont wanna go Norway?

Thanks to the less than perfect pronunciation of a
Korean man karaoke-ing to Mariah’s hit song,
i have a vid that can guarantee to
perk-you-up
today.

To the man in the video:
tanx for the laughs.
u make my day a little bit brighter.
Yes, English is a difficult language to learn
especially for non-native speakers like us, kan?

Oh, and a warning to those underaged…
due to the badly mispronounced words,
the song is innocently filled with emmm…
adult lyrics!

Now that’s not gonna stop you
from hitting the play button,
is it?

and to Tum..
i noe u already seen this.
diam2 aja ya.
hahaha..

u can get the video by clicking
